Staff Product Engineer
Full Time
Columbus, OH

AndHealth is a healthcare technology company created to radically improve access and outcomes to specialty care. We are driven by the goal of making world-class specialty care accessible and affordable to all. We partner with health systems, community health centers, plans, and employers to remove barriers to care to ensure all people have access to the care they deserve.

We are looking to add a Staff Product Engineer to serve as one of our technical leaders for our product and engineering organization. In this role, you will be trusted to take a poorly defined problem from a blank page to a robust, production-ready solution — and to leave the team stronger through the patterns, judgment, and design instincts. You will be the person who resolves the hardest, most ambiguous technical challenges the organization faces and builds systems and patterns that make every engineer around you more effective. This role reports to the Director of Software Engineering and works alongside engineers who are deep domain owners. Major decisions get made through collaboration rather than top-down direction.

You lead not through reporting lines, but through trust, demonstrated judgment, and quality of thinking.

What you'll do:

  • Tackle high-ambiguity challenges. Take complex, undefined problems, structure the approach, design the system, and ship the solution. These are the problems where the right answer isn't obvious and the path has to be invented.
  • Translate care delivery into code. Partner closely with clinical and operational leaders to understand the patient and provider journey, and turn complex care delivery models into flexible, durable software systems. This is the heart of the role.
  • Build force-multiplier patterns. Create the architectural patterns, reusable components, and design instincts that reduce cognitive load for the rest of the team. Bring rigor to cross-cutting concerns — observability, security, testing, data modeling, scalability — as a natural part of how you work.
  • Align architecture with the business. Understand our care delivery economics and reimbursement model deeply enough that your technical tradeoffs reflect commercial reality, not just engineering elegance.
  • Shape direction through influence, not authority. Engineering standards at AndHealth are set through collaboration and consensus among senior technical leaders. You'd be one of those leaders, earning influence through judgment and clear thinking.

Education & Licensure Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Other Skills & Qualifications

  • A track record of taking ambiguous, complex problems and independently delivering durable outcomes
  • Deep experience designing systems end-to-end — data models, APIs, clients, cloud infrastructure — with a clear framework for tradeoffs
  • Production experience building AI-integrated features: LLM-powered workflows, intelligent automation, AI-assisted clinical or operational tooling
  • Production experience with complex third-party integrations, ideally including healthcare APIs
  • The habit of defining success criteria and instrumentation before building, not after
  • Strong commercial instincts — you evaluate tradeoffs through business impact and cost-to-serve, not just code quality
  • The ability to model real-world operational workflows — care delivery, scheduling, clinical protocols — into clean data structures and system logic
  • Comfort operating as a technical peer to Product, Care, and Operational leadership
  • Genuine passion for the mission: the software you build is used by care coordinators, clinicians, and ultimately patients — that context shapes every decision at this level

Technologies:

  • Flutter, TypeScript, Firebase/GCP.
  • Healthcare API integrations (EHR, insurance, pharmacy)

Here’s what we’d like to offer you:

  • Equal investment and support for our people and patients.
  • A fun and ambitious start-up environment with a culture that takes on big things, takes risks, and learns quickly.
  • The ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation, and conscientiousness, and find joy in working together.
