About the Position Title:

The Data Engineering Intern will collaborate with senior data engineers and analysts, gain exposure to real-world problems and tickets, and assist in our migration efforts from legacy systems to modern technology platforms. Documentation of work and attention to detail are essential components of this position.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Position Title - Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineers and analysts, gaining exposure to real-world problems and tickets
• Assist with the migration of SQL workloads to Snowflake, including analyzing legacy SQL and rewriting it to align with best practices
• Write and validate SQL queries for various data transformation and validation
• Develop simple Python scripts to support data processing, automation, or integration tasks
• Use Git for source control and Terraform to participate in CI/CD processes (with guidance and support)
• Gain hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, modern data engineering tools

Position Title – Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 – 3 years’ experience in data engineering or equivalent education
• Working towards Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or statistics; or 2+ years’ equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree
• Experience writing in SQL and Python
• Analytical and interpretation skills, ability to review data and gain insight
• Ability to apply knowledge gained from one project to subsequent projects

Position Title – Qualifications Preferred:

• SSMS, SSIS experience
• Experience with Snowflake
• Knowledge of healthcare claims data
