Discovery Education is looking for a Digital Content Specialist to join our product team. This is a crucial role within the Digital Publishing team, contributing to Discovery Education's content strategy. As a key member, this individual will not only curate and edit diverse digital content, such as video, text, audiobooks, podcasts, interactives, and images but will also be responsible for strategic pillars within the collections.

Reporting to the Digital Content Director, the Specialist will comprehensively understand and address strengths and gaps within their assigned pillars. The ideal candidate for this position is a collaborative content curator who excels in evaluating digital media across various formats. Communicating effectively is a critical aspect, requiring articulate, considerate, and insightful discussions and recommendations.

In addition, the Specialist will leverage strong editorial skills to edit videos into core concept clips, align content with Discovery Education’s taxonomy, and actively participate in content personalization and promotion efforts.

This role will sit in our Charlotte Headquarters with a hybrid schedule.

About the Role

  • Own and be responsible for the growth of strategic pillars within Discovery Education Experience.
  • Evaluate, create, update, curate, and maintain digital content (videos, images, infographics, audiobooks, songs, podcasts, interactives, and more) for use by K-12 teachers and students.
  • Edit videos into core concept clips that address educational standards.
  • Map videos, video clips, and other content to Discovery Education’s taxonomy.
  • Tell the story of DE content by writing high-quality descriptions and assigning appropriate metadata.
  • Upload content to digital services using Discovery Education’s content management system.
  • Curate content into high-quality thematic collections.
  • Collaborate with team to select content for internal and external promotions and personalized Learning Engine.
  • Support other Digital Publishing projects as needed.
  • 2-3 years of related experience. Individuals with previous K12 education experience (teaching, edtech, publishing) strongly preferred.
  • Bachelors and master's degrees preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong editorial skills: writing, grammar, spelling, and proofreading.
  • Knowledge of content management systems.
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple remote team members.
  • Strong proficiency in use of multiple types of software and applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of non-linear video editing software (examples: Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas) is preferred, not required.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to do what needs to be done without being micromanaged.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving/solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to understand, accept, and engage with people of diverse backgrounds.
