K - 5 Subject Matter Expert - Science

We are looking for a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert – Science to be a key member of the team that builds industry-leading high-quality print and digital science content for Discovery Education products. The individual will employ knowledge and understanding of sound scientific and pedogeological content to ensure that Discovery Education services are of highest educational quality. The Subject Matter Expert in Elementary Science will collaborate closely with the other teams in the Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Engagement group, as well as independent contractors, product development, and systems engineering teams, to develop digital products and services that meet the business needs of the company. The individual will work with the science instruction team to provide knowledge and application of current research and best practices associated with elementary instruction, including the authentic integration of literacy, culturally responsive teaching and learning, and differentiation for students. The Subject Matter Expert in Science will also provide support as needed to the partnerships, international, and implementation teams, and will provide input and direct support in the development of sponsored products.
In This Role You Will:
- Ensure the alignment of products and curriculum to international, national, state, and district educational standards
- Facilitate and implement the development, quality assurance, production, and writing of science content within Discovery Education products
- Collaborate with other members of the content/product development and systems engineering teams to support current research-based practices in elementary science instruction and digital learning environments
- Build collaborative relationships with independent contractors and vendors to ensure adherence to Discovery Education standards for quality and to ensure on-time delivery
- Develop content and assessment items for elementary students that envision the Framework for K-12 Science Education and are aligned with the vision for the Discovery Education program
- Develop support materials for science national and/or state curriculum adoption processes. Utilize these materials to assist with international adoption and review, especially for countries with national curriculum frameworks
- Troubleshoot and assist with ongoing school support for current Discovery Education product users related to science content within the Discovery Education online platform
- Share science expertise and present Discovery Education products with teams across Discovery Education, including international, partnerships and implementation teams as needed
- Continue to improve science and pedagogical knowledge and skills through researching trends and sharing professional knowledge

Credentials and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science, engineering, science education or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience is required
- Successfully developed and implemented NGSS-based science education programs for educators of across grades K-8 is preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in elementary science curriculum development
- 5+ years’ experience with professional learning related to the Next Generation Science Standards
- Knowledge and experience in digital and blended instruction
- Experience in the development/publishing of digital education materials or products specific to science is preferred
- Experience with standard analysis and implementation of science instruction at the district, state, or national level is preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to inspire colleagues by emphasizing the mission, vision, values, and impact of three-dimensional learning in science education
- Legal right to work in the United States
This role is designed to be hybrid in our Charlotte, NC headquarters.
