We are looking for a highly skilled Scriptwriter - Contract to help develop a variety of prototype lesson formats. Part of this will involve writing engaging kid-facing scripts that make students feel involved and eager to participate - not just be a passive audience. You’ll also develop activities to go along with those scripts that help students engage in the practices and topics of social studies. You’ll be working with a small team to rapidly iterate on different ideas.
In This Role You Will:
Develop Engaging Content
- Have a strong understanding of K-5 classroom needs and challenges, in order to design solutions that would work for a broad cross section of schools across the country
- Research widely across historical, geographical, and civic topics
- Write kid-facing scripts that are clear, playful, and discovery-driven
- Create activities that align with learning goals and encourage student participation
Collaborate Across Teams
- Partner with visual storytellers to enhance clarity and engagement through visuals
- Work with curriculum experts to ensure historical accuracy and age-appropriate framing
- Iterate quickly on lesson prototypes based on team feedback and classroom trials
Define Program Voice
- Help shape the tone and storytelling style of Mystery Social Studies
- Balance humor and seriousness to maintain engagement and educational integrity

Credentials and Experience:
- Classroom experience working with K–5 students or curriculum
- Experience developing classroom activities
- Familiarity with social studies topics and standards
- Background in writing for children (e.g., curriculum, podcasts, animation, theater, books)
- Experience writing for video or interactive media (preferred)
- Able to work Pacific time zone hours
- Legal right to work in the United States
This role is designed to be a remote contract role initially 6 months.
