Senior Technical Writer
Forcepoint is seeking a cyber-industry knowledgeable Technical Writer with 6+ years of experience to join our global Technical Publications Team. Our Technical Writers plan, organize, write, and maintain a variety of informative and compelling content (e.g., end-user manuals, administrator manuals, online help, installation guides, release notes, infographic materials and videos) related to the Forcepoint products. We deliver our content in multiple publication formats: as stand-alone documents, online in our documentation portal, and embedded in our products.
Forcepoint delivers its products primarily as Software-as-a-Service or cloud-hybrid solutions. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in creating effective technical content within a cloud services ecosystem. The Technical Publications team is also transforming its current content authoring and management capabilities to drive scalability and re-use. Experience with transforming or authoring and editing content in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) — preferably with Oxygen XML Editor — and organizing and publishing to DITA standards is essential.
Key Performance Areas
- Build a close collaborative relationship and engage with product management, product enablement, product development, and QA teams to quickly build in-depth knowledge of Forcepoint products and solutions.
- Collect data by interviewing product specialists, researching written material, attending training and demonstrations, using the products hands on.
- Create detailed explanations of complex technical information that are clear, accurate, concise, engaging, and accessible to user personas with both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
- Author, edit, and publish a wide variety of technical materials that convey the vision and use cases of product and service capabilities.
- Working in an agile/scrum development environment, ensure deliverables are produced to plan – by delivery train or release - and are high quality, are effective for the intended audience, and follow brand, voice, and style guidelines.
- Perform editorial and pre-publication reviews of peer-developed content, providing clear recommendations for improvement in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, as well as clarity and engagement.
- Skillfully manage multiple competing projects simultaneously, by effectively managing time expectations and dependencies, and prioritizing daily tasks to publish content according to project deadlines.
- Partner with senior team members and manager to define priorities, plan time required to complete tasks, and identify appropriate tooling needed to complete assignments.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree in any technical stream (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering) or similar experience.
- At least 6+ years of experience in technical writing and publication.
- Experience in Software-as-a-Service will be a significant plus.
- Experience with DITA structured content and at least 3+ years of experience with oXygen XML Editor, or similar single-source XML authoring tool. Experience with migrating documentation authored in other tools to XML is a significant plus.
- A superior command of written English language, with a thorough knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation rules, sentence structure, and style conventions for published materials.
- Experience in working within an agile/scrum development environment.
- Experience with implementing online or in-product help content in a cloud service will be a plus.
- Domain knowledge in the cybersecurity or software-as-a-service industry.
- Experience with JIRA and Confluence collaboration software is preferred.
- Excellent verbal communication skills in a global working environment.
- No constraints or hesitancy to working across time zones as required to produce deliverables.
- Proven self-organization and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- The ability to thrive as an enthusiastic, collaborative team member in a fast-paced environment while working multiple projects under tight deadlines and changing conditions.
- Knowledge of Unix, Networking, and Cybersecurity will be a plus.
