As an RPG Programmer-Analyst on the IBM i server, you will play a crucial role in the development, maintenance, and optimization of RPG applications and DB2 databases in an IBM i environment (formerly AS/400). You will work closely with the software development team, analysts, and product team to create efficient and reliable solutions that meet the needs of the business.

Roles and Responsibilities:

RPG Application Development:

  • Design, code, test, and debug RPG programs to meet specific project requirements.

  • Collaborate with analysts and end-users to understand development needs.

DB2 Database Management:

  • Design, create, and maintain DB2 databases to store and manage company data.

  • Optimize SQL query performance and stored procedures to ensure fast and efficient data retrieval.

Maintenance and Improvement:

  • Ensure the ongoing maintenance of existing applications by identifying and resolving issues.

  • Implement enhancements and updates to applications and databases based on business needs.

Documentation and Tracking:

  • Document all developments, modifications, and optimizations to ensure traceability.

  • Maintain version records and user manuals for applications and databases.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other members of the development team to ensure seamless system integration.

  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and actively participate in team meetings.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement best practices for data security and ensure compliance with current regulations.

  • Participate in security audits and take action to address identified vulnerabilities.

Continuous Learning:

  • Stay updated with the latest technologies, industry trends, and innovations in RPG and DB2 development.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Programming experience in any language.

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Strong RPG programming skills, including RPG IV (ILE RPG).

  • Proven experience in designing and managing DB2 databases.

  • Proficiency in SQL query languages.

  • Knowledge of the IBM i (AS/400) environment and its specifics.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to solve complex problems and make informed decisions.

  • Attention to detail and a focus on quality.
