Overview:

We are seeking a Database Engineer to join our 24/7 Operations Center, providing L1 and L2 support for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. This entry-level position involves ensuring database performance, availability, and security through routine maintenance, monitoring, and incident management. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of MySQL and PostgreSQL, with a strong interest in automation and troubleshooting. You will work closely with senior DBAs and support teams to address issues, resolve alerts, and maintain system health in a collaborative, office-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor Database Performance: Regularly monitor the health, performance, and usage of Postgres databases, ensuring availability and responsiveness to minimize downtime.
• Respond to Alerts: Act as the primary point of contact for database-related alerts and incidents. Escalate complex issues to higher-level support when needed.
• Routine Maintenance: Perform standard database maintenance activities, including backups, data restoration, and disk space monitoring.
• User Support: Assist users with basic troubleshooting, such as connection issues, access permissions, and data retrieval.
• Documentation: Maintain clear and concise documentation for routine tasks, processes, and solutions to frequently encountered issues.
• Data Integrity Checks: Ensure data consistency and integrity through routine checks and data audits.
• Support Upgrades and Patching: Assist in applying patches and minor upgrades to ensure databases are up to date and secure.

Skills / Knowledge & Experience:

• Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of PostgreSQL or MYSQL architecture and functionality.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database querying.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix command line and basic scripting for PostgreSQL and Windows for MYSQL.
• Analytical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Team Player: A proactive team player with a willingness to learn and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:

• Experience working in 24/7 operations team supporting multiple DB technologies.

• Familiarity with system monitoring tools that support proactive interventions to prevent service impact.

• Understanding of ITIL or other service management frameworks.

Additional Information:

This position is work from office, requiring presence during all shifts, including nights and weekends as part of the 24/7 Operations Center and office cab transport is provided for all shifts
