Role overview:
We are seeking an experienced architect to lead a core part of our infrastructure through generation of recommendations and thought leadership. This role ensures alignment with business objectives, compliance standards, and industry best practices while driving innovation and efficiency within Infrastructure Operations.
Compute related services include, but are not limited to, such areas as:
Servers & hypervisors (EC2, VMWare/Nutanix/Dell/HP/Lenovo)
Storage technologies (S3, Dell/IBM: PowerMax, Unity, SVC, VMAX)
Data Protection & Backup solutions (AWS Backup, Rubrik, Netbackup)
Privileged Access Management (BeyondTrust)
Operating systems (Windows, Linux, AIX, IBMi). Operating environments (Microsoft RDS, Active Directory, SCCM (MS Patching), Foreman (Linux patching), syslog)
Certificate management

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, build and service ownership of the infrastructure and tools used within our global data centre & cloud locations. Provide thought leadership across the technology spectrum. Work across our technology SMEs to deliver enterprise grade infrastructure and solutions.
  • Work closely with application teams, DevOps, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to infrastructure engineers.
  • As a senior member of the team, you should be able to influence decisions and strategy across the business through persuasion and being able to clearly articulate needs and reasoning of designs/alternatives to move towards to a desired outcome.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption where beneficial.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency. Ensure that we are operationalising infrastructure, technologies and solutions so that that they can be properly onboard into, and supported, by our hosting/infrastructure operations teams
  • Drive technology improvements and consolidations. Conducting technology, tooling and solution comparisons & POCs.
  • Generate technology roadmaps and drive team projects to complete on time.
  • Designing and delivery of any none standard solutions
  • Create and peer review design documentation for our solutions and services.
  • Owning capacity planning and technical debt, facilitating discussion and delivering meaningful improvements via KPIs.

Skillsets & experience

  • Key skills / experience:
  • Proven experience in large scale data centre infrastructure architecture (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and cloud technologies (preferably AWS).
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform/Ansible), with familiarity of DevOps practices and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience of CIS standards for Operating System images and infrastructure. Security is at our core.
  • Experience of infrastructure audits. Provide and maintain collateral & evidence generation to support ISO27001/SOC1/SOC2 audit processes.
  • Experience of Operating systems. Management, hardening and ownership of Golden Images (Windows & Linux in DCs and cloud, AIX and IBMi in DCs)
  • Have experience of diverse Operating environments, functionality & tooling: Microsoft RDS, Active Directory, OS patching and config management, system logging.
  • Be comfortable debating technologies and processes, with the ultimate goal of harmonising to a single set of strategies and tech stacks
  • As well as being task driven, you have extensive experience of being accountable for project delivery. Working across multiple stakeholders to unblock initiatives and ensuring initiatives are delivered on time and to budget.
