Role overview:
The Cloud Operations Manager is a highly technical leadership role responsible for taking full control of Keyloop’s cloud operations landscape. This role is not limited to team management. It requires deep architectural capability, operational ownership, automation maturity, governance leadership, and cost accountability.
You will own the stability, standards, scalability, and cost efficiency of the AWS estate while leading a diverse Cloud Operations team. You are expected to proactively assess the landscape, identify structural gaps, plan resourcing appropriately, and ensure the platform is engineered for resilience and long-term sustainability.
This role requires strong technical depth combined with decisive ownership and operational maturity.
IMPORTANT:
This position requires working in UK business hours and occasional off-hours engagement during P1 and Major Incident (MI) situations to provide senior leadership oversight and technical direction.
Key responsiblities:
- Cloud Landscape Ownership
- Take full ownership of the AWS cloud operational landscape
- Assess current architecture, operational maturity, and automation coverage
- Identify structural, reliability, and governance gaps and implement corrective strategy
- Define and enforce cloud standards, guardrails, and operational frameworks
- Ensure the environment is scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-optimised
- Strategic Resourcing & Capacity Planning
- Plan and structure team resourcing aligned to platform demand and growth
- Evaluate skill gaps and define hiring or upskilling strategies
- Balance operational workload, modernization initiatives, and project delivery
- Ensure sustainable on-call coverage and service stability through structured planning
- Infrastructure as Code & Automation Governance
- Drive Terraform and Infrastructure as Code maturity across all environments
- Standardise modules, enforce governance controls, and reduce configuration drift
- Strengthen CI/CD governance across OneCD, ArgoCD, and deployment pipelines.
- Increase automation coverage to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention
- Operational Stability & Incident Leadership
- Act as senior escalation point for cloud operations
- Lead P1 and Major Incident response with technical authority
- Drive root cause analysis and permanent remediation strategies
- Own service reliability metrics including SLA, MTTR, and stability indicators
- Ensure CloudWatch monitoring, alerting, and production standards are robust and proactive
- Cloud Migration & Modernisation
- Lead complex cloud migrations and transformation programs
- Guide modernization and re-architecture initiatives
- Improve platform performance, scalability, and operational efficiency
- FinOps & Cost Governance
- Own cost visibility and accountability across AWS environments
- Drive FinOps initiatives including optimisation, rightsizing, and commitment strategies
- Embed cost governance into engineering and operational practices
- Provide transparency on cost drivers and optimisation outcomes
- Engineering Leadership
- Lead engineers across multiple skill sets and disciplines
- Build strong accountability, ownership, and engineering discipline
- Mentor senior engineers and develop future technical leaders
- Foster collaboration between Cloud Operations, Architecture, and Engineering teams
Essential Skillsets:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and services
- Deep expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Proven experience leading complex cloud migrations and modernization initiatives
- Strong knowledge of CloudWatch, monitoring strategies, alerting, and production best practices
- Exposure to OneCD, ArgoCD, and CI/CD governance frameworks
- Strong understanding of cloud security, operational governance, and reliability engineering
- Demonstrated experience defining cloud standards and operational frameworks
- Experience acting as escalation authority during critical incidents
- Strong FinOps knowledge with practical cost optimisation experience
- Proven ability to plan resourcing, manage capacity, and structure high-performing teams
- Ability to work in UK business hours with flexibility during critical incidents
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Highly Desirable
- Experience managing large-scale AWS multi-account environments
- Exposure to Kubernetes and containerised platforms
- Experience implementing policy-as-code and governance automation
- AWS Certifications (Professional level preferred)
- Experience operating in global enterprise environments
Additional Information:
- This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence on days defined by your manager. Occasional out-of-hours engagement may be required for major incidents or critical escalations in coordination with the 24/7 Operations Centre.
