The Role

Joining the Royalties team in the Publishing department in our London office, the primary role of the Royalties Assistant will be to support the team with the end to end processing of income received for our clients.

To be successful in the role, you need to have a detail-driven mind-set and be comfortable with repetitive and data heavy tasks. You will also work in a very fast-paced and deadline driven area of the business, so you need the ability to remain optimistic and persistent when following up on outstanding queries and have high levels of confidence in decision making when faced with difficult challenges such as investigating data issues. In addition to this, working across several areas of the business liaising with key stakeholders across Writer and Publishing Relations and Copyright teams also requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of the music company of the future. Kobalt is a global music and technology company built for songwriters and publishers with the technology infrastructure to enable better tracking and royalty collection for the billions of micro-payments per song in digital music today.

What You’ll Do

  • You build and configure bespoke import formats to streamline the ingestion of diverse statement types.
  • You supervise the end-to-end ingestion process, proactively identifying and resolving technical import errors.
  • You execute rigorous QC checks to maintain data accuracy throughout the quarterly cycle.
  • You work collaboratively within a high-pressure, deadline-driven quarterly cycle to facilitate seamless royalty processing.
  • You may be asked to take on additional responsibilities as required.

What You’ll Bring

Preferred:

  • A meticulous, detail-driven mindset with a proven track record of maintaining high standards of accuracy when handling complex datasets.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and solve problems effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • The resilience to remain focused and productive through repetitive, high-volume quarterly cycles while consistently meeting strict deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical or data-related issues clearly to stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset with confidence in decision-making and problem-solving within a fast-paced operational environment.

Additional Skills That Could Add Value:

  • A good understanding of music publishing, with previous administration, copyright, or royalty processing experience.
  • Basic Excel knowledge and experience working with data-heavy tasks.

What Success Looks Like

By Month 3: You’ll have developed a strong understanding of Kobalt’s royalty identification processes, ingestion workflows, and the wider scope of the Royalties team and department. During this period, your primary focus will be supporting high-volume identification work, building confidence in handling incoming royalty data accurately and efficiently while learning the quarterly processing cycle.

By Month 6: You’ll be confidently managing high-volume identification work with a strong level of accuracy and consistency. Depending on progression, you’ll begin supporting additional identification workflows and potentially assisting with imports, while proactively identifying discrepancies and contributing to the smooth delivery of quarterly royalty cycles

By Year 1: You’ll be a trusted expert in royalty identification and high-volume data processing tasks, confidently managing ingestion workflows, import formats, and complex identification issues.
