In this role, you will be a key individual contributor responsible for developing highly reliable backend services, integrating with healthcare systems, and maintaining our high standards for data integrity and security.
You’ll work primarily in a backend stack including Python, AWS (Lambdas, ECS, EC2), and PostgreSQL. You will collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional partners (Product, Frontend, and Implementation) to deliver a seamless and performant experience for our users.
Essential Functions:
  1. Develop & Maintain Backend Services
    1. Implement and support backend services for appointment discovery, booking, and notifications.
    2. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code that supports high-throughput and low-latency requirements.
  2. Healthcare Integrations
    1. Build and maintain integrations using healthcare standards like FHIR and HL7 v2.
    2. Utilize Mirth Connect for message transformation, routing, and monitoring.
    3. Support implementation teams in onboarding new health systems and EHRs.
  3. Cloud-Native Development
    1. Develop event-driven components using AWS Lambda and containerized services on ECS.
    2. Participate in the deployment and monitoring of services within the AWS ecosystem.
  4. Data Engineering
    1. Manage relational data in PostgreSQL, including schema updates and query optimization.
    2. Ensure data integrity and audit logging to meet healthcare compliance standards.
  5. Quality & Operations
    1. Participate in code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD workflows.
    2. Contribute to observability through logging and metrics; participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend development.
  • Proficiency in Python building production APIs and services.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, SQL, and migrations).
  • Experience building and deploying applications in a cloud environment (AWS preferred).
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of software fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, and testing).
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with Healthcare Interoperability (FHIR, HL7 v2, or Mirth Connect).
  • Experience with Scheduling domains (availability rules, time zones, or complex constraints).
  • Prior experience with AWS services like Lambda, ECS, SQS, and RDS.
  • Familiarity with Node.js or React (for cross-functional collaboration).
  • Experience working in a HIPAA-compliant or regulated environment.
Specific Job Skills:
  • Competency in backend engineering in Python (API frameworks, async patterns, performance profiling).
  • AWS development:
    • Understanding of AWS Lambda (event-driven workflows, idempotency, retries, DLQs)
    • Understanding of ECS/EC2 (container orchestration, service discovery, autoscaling)
  • PostgreSQL (or similar):
    • Ability to write optimized queries and manage PostgreSQL (or similar) schemas.
  • API design and integration:
    • Familiarity with versioning, pagination, and documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI).
