Summary
This position is responsible for scaling our finance operations and ensuring compliance in complex regulatory requirements. The assistant controller will play a critical role in managing day to day accounting operations, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and healthcare specific regulatory standards. This position requires a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and experience working in a dynamic, high-growth environment, preferably healthcare or tech.

2. Manage the day to day operations of the department
3. Support and train direct reports.
Job Duties
- Accounting Oversight: Manage general ledger operations, month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Audit & Compliance: Assist in managing annual financial audits, regulatory compliance (including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2), and internal controls.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure timely and accurate reporting and task completion.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance accounting workflows.
- ERP Management: Help maintain and optimize accounting systems and tools (e.g., NetSuite, Concur, Paycom, etc.).
- Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Collaborate with FP&A on budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis.
- Vendor & Payroll Support: Oversee accounts payable and payroll processing in coordination with HR and external vendors.
- Tax & Regulatory Support: Work with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the Finance and Accounting department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP; experience with healthcare-specific financial compliance is a plus.
- Systems: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, or similar ERP), Excel, and reporting tools.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring accounting staff.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance required.
Five (5) or more year(s) related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and progressive accounting experience, including public accounting or a high-growth tech/healthcare environment.
Prior experience supporting due diligence, M&A or investor reporting, required. In addition, experience working in a SaaS, health tech or venture backed startup environment, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred.
Travel Requirement
This position may require occasional travel to support employees based out of the Vancouver, WA office.
