Position Summary:
Perforce is searching for a Professional Services Engineer to join the P4 team. We are looking for an individual who has strong foundational technical skills and is eager to develop expertise in enterprise version control solutions. Prior experience with P4 or other enterprise version control systems is strongly preferred. This role offers the opportunity to learn P4 administration while working with global enterprise clients across diverse industries including gaming, automotive, aerospace, financial services, and enterprise software development. You'll grow your skills in availability management, security frameworks, performance optimization, and development workflow design while being mentored by senior consultants and gaining hands-on experience with mission-critical P4 implementations.
This position will support our P4 brand. P4 is Perforce's enterprise-grade version control system that provides unmatched performance, security, and scalability for development teams managing large codebases, digital assets, and complex branching strategies. Used by industry leaders worldwide, P4 enables teams to collaborate efficiently while maintaining complete visibility and control over their intellectual property. Travel Requirements: This role may require occasional travel (up to 10–20%) to client sites for workshops, implementations, or technical consultations. Travel is typically planned well in advance and supported by the Professional Services team.
Responsibilities:
- Learn to design and implement comprehensive P4 availability management solutions including backup/recovery procedures, checkpoint strategies, high availability replication, and disaster recovery planning
- Develop skills in architecting security and compliance frameworks implementing P4 protections, authentication systems, encryption, audit logging, and CVE response procedures
- Assist with performance optimization assessments and implement scalability solutions for large-scale P4 environments supporting thousands of users and terabytes of data
- Configure development workflows including P4 Streams implementations, classic branching strategies, code review processes, and governance controls
- Support complex system integrations connecting P4 with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, defect tracking tools, and digital asset management platforms
- Help establish monitoring, alerting, and root cause analysis procedures for proactive P4 environment management
- Participate in technical workshops on P4 best practices covering all operational domains from security to performance optimization
- Develop custom automation scripts and P4 extensions while maintaining proper governance and documentation standards
- Provide troubleshooting support for performance, security, and integration challenges under senior guidance
- Create comprehensive operational procedures and documentation for client P4 environments
- Support sales teams on technical pre-sales activities and proof-of-concept implementations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
- •2-4 years of professional experience in system administration, software development, or technical consulting
- System Administration: Strong hands-on experience with Windows and Linux system administration including user management, file systems, networking, and service configuration
- Cloud Platform Experience: Practical experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP including virtual machine deployment, storage configuration, and network setup
- Scripting Proficiency: Demonstrated ability in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages for automation and system management tasks
- Database Fundamentals: Understanding of database concepts, backup/recovery procedures, and basic SQL knowledge
- Version Control Knowledge: Familiarity with version control concepts and experience with any VCS (Git, SVN, or similar)
- DevOps & CI/CD Experience: Hands-on experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipeline implementation and management
- Client-facing Skills: Experience in technical support, consulting, or customer-facing roles with strong communication abilities
- Problem-solving Aptitude: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Self-motivated learner with enthusiasm for mastering new technologies and platforms
Preferred:
- P4 Administration Experience: Previous experience with P4 backup/recovery, checkpoint management, high availability replication, or disaster recovery planning
- P4 Security & Compliance: Knowledge of P4 protections table, authentication systems, encryption, audit logging, or regulatory compliance requirements
- P4 Performance & Scalability: Experience optimizing P4 performance, implementing scalability solutions, or capacity planning
- P4 Development Workflows: Familiarity with P4 Streams, classic branching strategies, code review workflows, or governance controls
- P4 Integration & Extensibility: Experience with P4 integrations, P4DAM, P4DTG, custom scripting, or third-party system connectivity
- Enterprise monitoring tools and alerting systems experience
- Perforce certifications or advanced P4 training completion
