At Pet Circle, we believe pets deserve the very best, and the people who love them deserve a better way to care for them. Since 2011, we've grown from that single idea into Australia's biggest online pet retailer, with around 500 Pet Circlers across Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines, reshaping how pet parents discover, choose and receive what their pets need.

Pet care is a $15 billion industry in Australia, and as pet ownership continues to grow, so do the expectations of modern pet parents. They want expert advice, personalised experiences, convenience and reliability, all delivered seamlessly. That's where we come in. We're building the future of pet care through technology, innovation and a deep understanding of what pets and their people need. It's a big opportunity, and we're only just scratching the surface.

The role

Reporting directly to the VP of Commercial, the Strategic FP&A Manager is an elevated leadership position designed to steer both the operational and long-term strategic financial direction of the business.

In this role, you will move beyond standard corporate reporting to lead strategic financial storytelling, driving informed decision-making across the ELT. You will be responsible for integrating cutting-edge AI tools to simplify and modernise the FP&A function, while simultaneously empowering and mentoring a junior Strategy / Business Analyst to optimise board reporting workflows, strategy execution, and corporate governance timelines.

What you’ll be working on
Strategic Support, Modelling & Decision Making

  • Build, maintain, and own highly dynamic financial models to conduct scenario planning, stress-testing, and risk/return analysis on major strategic shifts

  • Translate complex corporate financial data into structured, strategic narratives for the Executive Leadership Team to assist in commercial planning.

  • Lead the financial performance storytelling deliverables, shifting the focus from 'what' happened to 'why' it happened

Corporate Planning, Forecasting & Governance

  • Lead the operational blueprint, milestones, and timelines for the annual, 3-year, and 5-year strategic planning cycles, aligning inputs with cross-functional commercial business partners.

  • Design and execute agile rolling forecasts that respond fluidly to macroeconomic conditions, performance trends, digital marketing efficiency shifts, and evolving customer behaviours.

  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of all Financial Reporting, ensuring content is accurate, seamless, and strategically focused.

  • Identify structural P&L opportunities or risks against plan and forecasts, delivering actionable, proactive commercial recommendations to protect the bottom line.

Continuous Improvement & AI Innovation

  • Actively champion and embed AI and advanced automation tools into the daily FP&A workflow to simplify data extraction, synthesis, variance analysis, and presentation creation.

  • Continuously modernise and automate financial models to reduce cycles, eliminate manual bottlenecks, and elevate the function's analytical maturity.

What we're looking for

Experience & Background

  • Demonstrated experience working inside a rapid-growth scale-up, agile mid-market operator, or high-velocity environment where priorities shift quickly

  • Strong background in eCommerce, digital marketplaces, retail, or FMCG

  • Comprehensive experience within a FP&A or Corporate Strategy function, possessing a granular understanding of revenue, margin drivers, and business analytics.

  • Proven capability or readiness to manage and mentor junior professionals, establishing clear development plans and ensuring high-quality execution.

Technical & Analytical Capabilities

  • Hands-on experience using generative AI tools, predictive analytics, or advanced software to augment financial reporting and simplify workflows.

  • High-level capabilities in building three-way financial models, corporate valuation frameworks, and multi-variable scenario models.

  • Comfort navigating Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g., NetSuite) alongside business intelligence platforms (e.g., Google Looker Studio).

Core Competencies & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a proven knack for challenging assumptions and advising senior executives.

  • Commercially astute professional who looks around corners, values execution over perfection, and thrives amidst ambiguity.

  • Qualifications: CPA, CA, or CMA qualified

Where you'll work

This is a Sydney-based role. Our office sits on top of Wynyard station, it's pet-friendly (of course), and we work flexibly, a mix of office and home. We believe spending time together in person is important for building strong relationships, collaborating effectively, moving quickly as a team, and having fun!

A few good things

  • Heaps of development opportunities - lunch & learns, secondments & unlimited learning courses via Go1

  • Flexible working environment

  • Up to 50% employee discount

  • Product sample giveaways

  • Pawrental leave and wellbeing leave

  • Volunteer days for the causes you care about

  • Fitness corporate partnership

Why you'll want in

Looking after pets, and the pet parents who love them, is what gets us out of bed. That energy carries into how we work, and into what your days here would feel like.

You'll own your patch and have the room to act on it. We move fast and decide fast, and we'd rather test an idea and learn from it than sit on it. You'll have rich, real-time data at your fingertips to back your thinking, and the freedom to chase an opportunity the moment you spot one. The best idea wins, wherever it comes from.

What holds it together is what we stand for:

  • We're better together

  • We operate with humble hearts and hungry minds

  • Pets matter, so pets and pet parents always have a seat at our table

  • We're instinctively curious. Always

Everyone (& their pets) are welcome

We're better when we don't all think the same. Different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences make our work sharper and our days more interesting, so whoever you are, if this role excites you we'd love to hear from you, even if you don't tick every box. And if you need anything adjusted in the process to do your best, just say the word, we're happy to help.
