Job Summary

Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrators are responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the Microsoft SQL Server systems. They apply best-practice database administration techniques and procedures to maintain and support the databases and database systems. They also recommend, create, and implement enhancements to improve performance, security, and reliability. Database administrators are expected to identify and quickly resolve database and database server problems if they arise.

Responsibilities

• Administer on-premises and cloud database infrastructure in AWS and Azure.
• Provision and manage AWS SQL RDS, databases, and Azure SQL.
• Install, upgrade, and maintain all databases required for software production.
• Maintain database availability through capacity planning.
• Ensure performance optimization of database systems.
• Collaborate with developers on projects requiring databases.
• Implement and enforce security for MS SQL Databases.
• Assist with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
• Participate in 24 X 7 on-call rotations and contribute to monthly maintenance work.

Qualifications

• BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with MS SQL administration ensuring uptime.
• 4+ years of experience in database tuning and query optimization using execution plans, dynamic management views, and extended events.
• Proficient in SQL scripting and transact-SQL (T-SQL).
• Develop complex SQL scripts, functions, and stored procedures.
• Hands-on experience with AlwaysOn availability groups and failover clustering.
• Proficient in analyzing and generating tables and index statistics.
• Ability to monitor and resolve data lock issues.
• Proficient in the use of AWS CloudWatch and Azure monitor.
• Experience with migrating on-premises databases to AWS and/or Azure.
