Overview
The Database Operations Engineer implements, maintains and continuously improves RDBMS systems to ensure availability, scalability, and advancement of our enterprise applications, showcasing solid technical and interpersonal skills to assist in debugging protocols/process for stack callbacks, implementing corrective action within SQL scope, and analyzing performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategy
- Work with development staff to firm-up/harden database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
- Research analysis and recommendation regarding database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of future database platform design/delivery/management efforts.
- Operations/Config Management
- SQL database management across development, QA and production environments
- Database performance and capacity management monitoring
- Database maintenance activity implementation (backup/recovery, rebuilding/reorganizing indexes, etc)
- Database release versioning/assessment/measurement from a functionality and performance perspective
- Technical expertise/guidance on database design (Logical and Physical modelling) and development
- Demonstrate SQL expertise related to performance tuning of database schema, stored procedures, etc
- Failover Cluster/HA set-up/configuration/management
- Database management activity automation using PowerShell, SSIS, and other technologies
- System monitoring, metric reporting, and diagnostics
Skills Required
- Excellent time management, resource organization and priority establishment skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to work with an optimistic attitude both independently and as part of a team
Qualifications Required:
- BS degree in Computer Science or related field and/or at least 5-7 years equivalent work experience
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Clustering, Replication, and Always On
- Experience with database technologies, such as Postgres, MySQL, and AWS RDS
- Experience in performance tuning, query optimization using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler or other related tools
- Experience resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking/deadlocking issues, connectivity issues, and data replication issues
