Overview
The Sr. Director, Commercial Intelligence will play a critical role in shaping and executing symplr’s commercial intelligence strategy. Reporting to the VP of Commercial Operations, this leader will design, implement, and scale a best-in-class intelligence program that informs decisions across the full commercial organization—including Growth (Sales) and Customer Success.
This leader will partner closely with senior executives across symplr to drive a data-driven culture, leveraging insights to influence go-to-market strategy, execution, and long-term growth. They will be responsible for identifying and tracking leading vs. lagging indicators, building actionable intelligence frameworks, and enabling commercial leaders to make better, faster, and more informed decisions.
The Sr. Director will manage and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop & Execute Intelligence Strategy: Create and lead a holistic commercial intelligence strategy that enables data-driven decisions across sales, customer success, and broader commercial functions.
- Analytical Insight Generation: Build and maintain intelligence frameworks to identify leading and lagging indicators of growth, retention, and customer health, ensuring actionable insights are delivered to leaders. Analyze data to identify trends, root causes and actionable recommendations that directly influence commercial strategy and performance
- Scalability and foresight: Always evaluating how the intelligence function can scale and handle bigger data, bigger questions and leading metrics
- Fiscal Year Planning: Drive annual planning processes including segmentation, coverage and capacity modeling for Sales and Success, and quota allocation to align with company growth goals.
- Modeling and Forecasting: Develop and refine predictive models and other analytical tools to forecast and project performance to support long-term growth initiatives
- Reporting Excellence: Design and deliver best-in-class reporting capabilities that scale from individual contributors to executive leadership, ensuring data is accessible, accurate, and actionable.
- Metric Strategization & Execution: Define and execute a thoughtful metrics strategy, focusing on quality over quantity to ensure clarity, consistency, and impact across the organization.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with executives and senior leaders in Sales, Success, Marketing, Finance, and Product to align intelligence efforts with company priorities and foster a unified data-driven approach. Collaborate with BI peers and data teams to strengthen analytics infrastructure and promote shared standards and methodologies
- Data Governance, Consistency and Definition Setting: Own and oversee metric definitions while ensure consistent documentation and usage of those metrics cross-functionally. Ensure data integrity, reliability and handling discrepancies to allow for source systems to be sources of truth
- Change Management & process improvement: Approaches established processes/reporting thru a lens that “we can always do better” and strives for continuous improvement to push for improved processes, systems and simplifications
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of commercial intelligence professionals; instill best practices in analytics, modeling, reporting and business partnering. Lead by example thru fostering accountability, curiousity and collaboration within the team and across the broader BI community
- Data-Driven Organization: Contribute to symplr’s evolution into a fully data-driven enterprise by advocating for consistent metrics, reliable data sources, and innovative analytics approaches.
- Performance Measurement: Establish and communicate clear KPIs that measure organizational effectiveness, commercial productivity, and customer success outcomes.
- Executive Influence: Provide data driven insights, forecasts and recommendations to senior executives, helping shape commercial strategies, resource allocation, and growth initiatives.
Skills Required
- 12+ years of progressive experience in Commercial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Sales/Success Operations, or related functions; at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in building and leading intelligence or analytics functions within a B2B SaaS or healthcare technology environment (preferred).
- Proven track record of developing intelligence programs that drive measurable business outcomes.
- Proven ability to scale a Commercial Intelligence or Business Analytics function, preferably in a PE-backed company.
- Deep expertise in identifying, analyzing, and applying leading vs. lagging indicators to drive growth and retention strategies.
- Excellent executive presence and communication skills; ability to distill complex data into compelling narratives and influence senior leaders.
- Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect data insights to strategic and operational outcomes.
- Proficiency with business intelligence tools, CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred), and data visualization technologies (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
