At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!
New Relic is a global leader in the field of Intelligent Observability and applying AI to solve real world observability and telemetry problems. We have been called out by the Gartner Magic Quadrant for our ability to Lead and Execute consistently over the last decade.
In this role, you won't just be pushing the boundaries of AI; you'll be applying it to solve some of the most complex and valuable problems in the enterprise software industry. You will have the autonomy to explore, the resources to build, and the platform to make a massive impact.
If you're ready to lead the team that writes the future of Intelligent Observability with AI, we want to hear from you.
Your opportunity
The Mission: Theory to Telemetry
Transform groundbreaking academic research into market-defining AI products. Take the latest LLM paper from theory to blueprint a solution for mission-critical enterprise observability challenges at a global scale.
We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead our AI/ML Research Engineering team in Bengaluru. This team is the innovation engine at the heart of our AI and Observability platform, responsible for bridging the gap between state-of-the-art AI and tangible solutions to problems our customers face in software reliability, incident resolution, and automation. You will lead the charge in conceptualizing and building the next generation of intelligent systems that predict, diagnose, and resolve complex issues at scale.
What you'll do
- Lead & Inspire: Mentor and grow a world-class team of research engineers, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity, rapid experimentation leading to impactful delivery.
- Define the Future: Drive the research roadmap, identifying and prioritizing novel techniques in areas like applying Language Models (LMs), Knowledge Graphs, Reinforcement Learning (RL), and algorithmic Analysis methods to create a significant competitive advantage.
- Prototype to Product: Guide the end-to-end innovation lifecycle—from dissecting research papers and formulating hypotheses to building proofs-of-concept and collaborating with product and platform teams to ship robust features.
- Be the Expert: Serve as a key technical thought leader within the organization, translating complex AI concepts into clear product strategies and representing our innovation to stakeholders and the broader tech community.
- Solve Real-World Puzzles: Apply your expertise to unique, high-scale datasets in the telemetry and observability space, developing novel solutions for problems that haven't been solved before.
This role requires
- Bachelor’s, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field from a top-tier institution.
- 15+ years of experience in applied AI/ML, with a minimum of 5 years leading high-performing research or applied science teams.
- Your track record speaks for itself, with a history of leading research initiatives that have translated into shipped products, patents, or publications in premier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, KDD, ACL).
- You have deep technical expertise in one or more of the following:
- Natural Language Processing (NLP) & Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Graph Machine Learning and Knowledge Graphs.
- Time-Series Analysis, Anomaly Detection, or Causal Inference.
- You are a "player-coach" who is equally comfortable discussing theoretical model architectures and pragmatic engineering trade-offs.
Bonus points if you have
- Direct experience in the domains of AIOps, Observability, Telemetry, or IT Operations.
- Experience building and scaling ML services in a cloud-native environment (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Hands-on proficiency with Python and modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LlamaIndex).
