You will be at the heart of New Relic’s engineering process and will be building, extending, and supporting a core set of services which all of New Relic’s agents connect to every hour of every day processing millions of messages per second, handling petabytes of data as part of a distributed team that values both collaboration and individual focus to solve challenging engineering problems.
What You’ll Do
- Full-Stack Delivery: Independently design, develop, and deploy scalable features using React on the frontend and Java/Python on the backend.
- AI Integration: Implement AI-enhanced workflows, including the development of MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to expose New Relic’s telemetry data to LLMs and AI agents.
- System Ownership: Take responsibility for the reliability and performance of services processing massive data volumes, ensuring they are multi-threaded and highly concurrent.
- Code Excellence: Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. Participate in peer code reviews and contribute to internal technical documentation.
- Collaborate: Work closely with Product Managers and Designers to turn wireframes and requirements into polished, production-ready software.
- Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in the stack—from slow UI renders to inefficient backend queries—and implement high-performance solutions.
Must-haves
- Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development, preferably in a SaaS or product-based environment.
- Frontend Proficiency: Strong experience with React (preferred) or Angular, with a solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, and modern web standards.
- Backend Expertise: Strong proficiency in Java or Python. You should have a solid grasp of OOP principles, RESTful APIs, and multi-threaded programming.
- Database & Scale: Experience working with distributed systems and relational or NoSQL databases. You understand how to write queries that perform at scale.
- AI & Innovation: Experience or a strong interest in AI/ML integration, specifically working with LLM APIs and building/maintaining MCP servers.
- Problem Solving: A proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across the entire technical stack.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with Go or other backend languages used in high-performance environments.
- Experience with observability tools (New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana) or Big Data platforms (Kafka, Spark).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
- A passion for UI/UX and building data-dense dashboards.
