What's exciting about the role

As a Legal Counsel at Verifone, you will be an integral member of our Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) legal team, with a particular focus on our operations in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. You will collaborate closely with local business leaders to identify and address legal risks and draft and negotiate commercial agreements, and provide expert legal advice.

This position also entails close cooperation with our global litigation, employment, and intellectual property (IP) law teams on local law matters. The role will report to the Head of Legal for the EMEA region who is based in London and will work closely with the business leaders for the Nordics who are mostly based in Helsinki, with representatives in all 8 of the countries covered. Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Risk Management: Collaborate with business leaders in the Nordics and Baltics to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with Verifone's operations.
  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial legal agreements, including hardware sales agreements, software license agreements, SaaS agreements, data protection agreements, and others.
  • Deal Structuring: Advise the business on how best to structure new commercial agreements.
  • RFP Review: Review RFP conditions and responses to ensure compliance with legal requirements and Verifone's global risk policies.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide general legal advice on the company's operations in the Nordics and Baltics, with a focus on compliance with local and international laws.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the global litigation, employment, and IP law teams on Nordics and Baltic matters overseen by those teams.

Skills and Experience we desire

  • Fully qualified attorney in at least one country in the covered territory.
  • Fluency in English and Finnish (If located in Finland) or Swedish (If located in Sweden) is required, with a preference given to candidates that are fluent in both languages.
  • Minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with a strong emphasis on commercial law, particularly in cross-border matters.
  • Must have spent significant time at a distinguished law firm in a commercial practice area.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and on multi-jurisdictional transactions.
  • Experience with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and EU Accessibility Act is preferred but not required.
  • Strong contract drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability and a keen ability to learn and understand new products, services, and laws.
  • Previous experience working as in-house counsel is not required.
