What's Exciting About the Role

The VP of Engineering – Bangalore is a rare opportunity to lead one of Verifone's most strategically important engineering hubs — a large, thriving office at the center of our global product development efforts. Reporting directly to the CTO, this role is equal parts technical leader, people champion, and operational anchor for the Bangalore office.

You will set the tone for engineering culture, define how the office operates day-to-day, and serve as the senior-most leader on the floor — driving accountability, collaboration, and excellence across full-stack product engineering teams. This is a role for someone who has been there before: a hands-on engineering leader who has built and shaped office cultures, developed deep technical talent, and knows how to translate global strategy into local execution.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and scale full-stack product engineering teams across the Bangalore office, owning delivery quality, velocity, and technical standards — with direct oversight of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, QA, and Operations functions.
  • Partner with global engineering and product leadership to align Bangalore's roadmap contributions with Verifone's overall product strategy.
  • Drive architectural decisions, engineering best practices, and a culture of technical excellence across teams.
  • Maintain deep enough technical involvement to credibly evaluate trade-offs, challenge approaches, and mentor senior engineers.

Office Leadership & Culture

  • Serve as the senior floor leader for Verifone's Bangalore office — the visible, day-to-day leadership presence for a 300-person engineering team.
  • Define and shape the culture of the Bangalore office, fostering an environment of high performance, psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous growth.
  • Own the employee experience on the ground — from onboarding and engagement to career development and retention of top engineering talent.
  • Partner with HR, Facilities, and Finance to oversee the operational health of the office, ensuring the environment supports productivity and team wellbeing.

People Development & Talent

  • Build, mentor, and develop a deep bench of engineering leaders across the Bangalore office.
  • Drive hiring strategy and talent acquisition for the office in partnership with Talent Acquisition and HR.
  • Champion learning and development initiatives that grow technical capability and leadership skills across all levels.
  • Foster a culture of feedback, recognition, and continuous improvement that keeps Verifone competitive in the Bangalore talent market.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary liaison between the Bangalore office and global engineering, product, and business leadership.
  • Ensure seamless collaboration between Bangalore-based teams and counterparts across the US, EMEA, and other global offices.
  • Represent the Bangalore engineering team at the executive level, advocating for resources, priorities, and investments that enable the office to deliver at its best.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 12–15 years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant time in senior engineering leadership roles.
  • Hands-on software engineering background — you have written production code and can engage credibly at a deep technical level.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling large engineering teams (200+ people) spanning software, hardware engineering, QA, and operations — ideally in a global technology or fintech company.
  • Demonstrated track record of defining, building, and shaping an office or engineering culture from the ground up or through significant transformation.
  • Experience as a floor-level leadership presence — someone known for being visible, accessible, and deeply connected to the team.
  • Strong full-stack product engineering expertise, with the ability to guide architectural decisions and technical strategy.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills with a track record of developing senior engineers and engineering managers.
  • Strong operational acumen — comfortable owning the day-to-day health of a large, complex office environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent Bangalore engineering at the global executive level.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in the payments, fintech, or enterprise technology industry.
  • Experience leading engineering hubs that operate across multiple global time zones.
  • Familiarity with modern full-stack engineering practices including cloud-native architecture, API-first development, and DevOps.
  • Prior experience in a site lead or country engineering head capacity.
